Baume and Mercier Clifton 10518

Overview

First introduced in 2018, the Clifton Baumatic has been a milestone in Baume and Mercier’s rich timeline. The classic and timeless round case design comes in at 40mm, so an extremely versatile size that will suit most wrist sizes and sit comfortably under a shirt cuff measuring just 11.3mm thick. The tops of the case and the bezel are highly polished with the flanks having a brushed satin finish, thus emphasising the beautiful case geometry further. The domed anti-scratch, anti-glare sapphire crystal continues the overall curvature perfectly from the edge of the bezel.

The porcelain-like white dial of the 10518 Baumatic gives a crisp, bright and airy feel. The eye is drawn towards the white crosshair that balances the dial perfectly and references the underpinning accuracy of this piece. The large date aperture, subtly bevelled, presents clear reading of the crisp black font on a white background. Seconds are denoted towards the outer edge in 5 second increments. Text on the dial is neatly placed vertically through the centre, creating a harmony with the date and aforementioned crosshair design. The rhodium plated angular sword style hands – strong, yet delicate, meet the indices with precision due to their needle sharp points. The light playing off the rhodium giving a perfect contrast to the white dial.

The case back is highly polished and carries a sapphire crystal display allowing one to observe the BM13-1975A movement. Certified by COSC (-4/+6 sec per day) the movement and its oscillating weight have been meticulously detailed with Côtes de Genève and snailed decor. With advances in movement design which include a silicon balance spring that is antimagnetic and lighter than the standard materials used, as well as being less sensitive to vibration, combined with improved escapement design, the BM13-1975A has increased autonomy of approximately 30% which amounts to being able to offer a 5 day power reserve.

The 10518 is mounted on a black strap with grey stitching, featuring curved ends that nestle perfectly into the case lugs, it can easily be removed using the quick release mechanism and replaced with a Baume and Mercier five link bracelet. The strap is secured with a signed tri-folding clasp and released with the two security buttons incorporated within.

The Clifton Baumatic represents a superior timepiece, exuding class and practicality at a very attractive price point. Manufacturers warranty of 3 years as standard.
