…the Clifton line takes it’s design cues from the brand’s past while incorporating a contemporary ethos. Cases with traditional lines and modern interpretations house the maison manufactured self-winding Baumatic BM13 & BM14 movements, which have been developed to power chronographs, complete and perpetual calendars as well as more simple time & date functions. Available across a range of case materials and sizes, the Clifton Baumatic range is directed toward the gent in demand of performance, innovation and style.

The Clifton Baumatic
The Clifton Baumatic range presented by Baume and Mercier offers the modern gent an everyday timepiece that will effortlessly adapt to almost any given situation. Available in three case sizes, either 40mm, 42mm or 43mm, the Clifton has plenty of wrist presence without being overbearing.
The round cases polished on the top edges and bezel and brushed on the sides, seamlessly blend into the lugs which subtly radius away with the strap offering a perfect curvature to the watch head which then blends into the strap featuring curved bars that beautifully integrates the strap or bracelet into the case shape.
Focusing here on the Clifton ‘Automatic’, cases are available in solid 18k pink gold, steel or a combination of both, which Baume and Mercier refer to as ‘two-tone’. The dials are available in a variety of colours and finishes including a porcelain-like lacquered white (10518), matte black or a graduated sunburst effect in deep blue (10467) or dark grey (10550) accentuated by a crosshair through the centre of the dial indicating the accuracy certified by COSC of the in-house Baumatic movement within. A clear, crisp font in the date aperture offers quick and easy reading at 3 o’clock. The Clifton ‘automatic’ has an uncluttered and clean dial that is easy to read at a glance but also reflects classic and refined taste with the sword style hour and minute hands reaching perfectly to the inside and outside of the bevelled riveted indices respectively and the sweeping second had touching the outside track featuring incremental five-second denotations.
The anti-scratch and anti-glare sapphire crystal have a slight dome which marries perfectly with the case ergonomics. The reverse of the watch is equally as designed and beautiful as the front. The stunningly decorated in-house Baume and Mercier movement is presented through a sapphire crystal case back providing a mesmerising insight of the inner workings of the BM13-1975A calibre which boasts a mighty 120 hour or 5-day power reserve. Utilising some of the most advanced production methods and state of the art materials, the movement has a recommended service interval of up to 7 years and a manufacturers warranty of 3 years. The Baumatic ‘automatic’ can also be mounted on either a strap or bracelet, featuring signed tri-folding clasps or pin buckles.
The Day Date Moonphase is a brand new model from Baume and Mercier for 2020 that raises the bar yet again. With a slightly larger case size at 42mm and 13.2mm thick, it is available in pink gold (10547) or steel (10548), the Day Date Moonphase is not afraid to make a statement.
In the same vein as the smaller siblings, the Moonphase boasts a beautifully crafted case with perfect transitions between case & lug, highly polished on the tops and the bezel, with satin sides giving a sharp contrast between the two. The dial, a graduated grey that darkens to the outer edges is perfectly balanced and manages not to feel overcrowded despite the amount of information on display. The rhodium-plated indices have been individually designed so as not to interfere with any of the features that they are close to – highlighting the level of detail that has been considered. The jewel in the crown with the Moonphase has to be the stunning moon phase dial, set against a star scattered sky and partially hidden behind a smoky grey slice of sapphire. Perhaps the most beautiful dial to come from Baume and Mercier in the past decade, it is safely protected by a slightly domed anti-scratch and anti-glare sapphire crystal.
The Day Date Moonphase is presented on a sumptuous deep blue alligator strap that marries perfectly with the case due to the rounded ends and bars. The strap can easily be interchanged without tools due to the built-in quick-change mechanism. The in-house COSC certified BM14-1975A C2 movement, decorated with Côtes de Genéve and snailing, can be appreciated through the sapphire case back.
