The Classima Lady 10479 from Baume and Mercier could perhaps be highlighted as the flagship of the ladies’ range. At 31mm, it sits perfectly in the mid-size category of wristwatch striking a chord with everyday wear and also, a fine dress piece. The round case, polished to a mirror finish is bestowed with a bezel set with 60 brilliant-cut diamonds (.29cts) – inside of which the dial, manufactured from mother of pearl, subtly alters it’s colouring as the light plays off it. The quadrants are denoted with Roman numerals, save 3 o’clock, where the date is displayed through a small aperture. Other hours are represented with delicately applied rhodium-plated indices with the minute track dots painted between. Delicate leaf style hands – rhodium-plated, compliment the dial with a sweeping second hand – also rhodium plated. The case back is polished steel case back has a central sapphire crystal allowing the Baume and Mercier decorated, Swiss made ETA 2892-A2 movement to be displayed. The bracelet polished on the front and sides with the inside satin is secured with using the comfortable Baume and Mercier tri-folding clasp opened with discreet pushers on either side. The 10479 Lady Classima benefits from a 42hour power reserve and a water resistance rating of 5ATM (approx. 50m), also available with a quartz movement – 10478.
The Baume and Mercier Classima 10480 presses home the aesthetics of the classic understated timepiece for the discerning gent. The polished steel round case is offered at 42mm, giving way to it’s defined lugs. The case holds a narrow angular bezel that allows for much more dial area than some models. The blue dial boasts a beautifully balanced layout essentially comprising three rings; the outer finished in satin carrying the second track in white featuring the five-minute increments, the mid-ring displays a machine turned circular finish that carries the hourly markers – 3, 6, 9 & 12 denoted in Roman numerals and slim batons in between, the central bearing the Baume & Mercier logo and Geneve set against the waffle like guilloché textured surface. Despite the dial being of one colour, the individual characteristics of the elements bounce light at different angles giving a mesmerising effect. Just above 6 o’clock, the second’s sub dial is a miniature version of the main dial’s layout. Completing the dial, slightly inside of the 3 o’clock marker the date window reveals a clean font on a black background for maximum clarity. The sides of the case are polished to the same mirror as the bezel, offering a slim, signed winding crown at 3 o’clock. On the reverse of the case, the wearer is presented with a view of the decorated Swiss movement through the sapphire glass. The watch is presented on a Baume and Mercier black alligator strap fixed with a simple to operate quick release system that will enable the owner to interchange straps depending on their mood. A signed tri-folding clasp with side release pushers secures the strap. A bracelet variant is available on this model – 10481.
