An automatic watch has a complex mechanism that requires constant movement to stay wound.

If you wear your watch regularly it will naturally stay wound, but if you don’t wear it often or own multiple watches, you’ll soon find yourself having to manually wind and reset your watches at the start of each use.

This is even more annoying if your watch includes extra features like keeping the date, annual calendars, moon phase, and world time.

How To Choose

The first step in choosing your winder is to use our specifications database to calculate the TPD (turns per day) and rotation direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) that your watch requires, and then filter the list by winders that can accommodate your needs.

The next step is to calculate how many watches you need to wind at any one time. If you regularly wear 2-3 watches, then you need to filter our list by winders that have 2-3 winding modules.

You can then consider the visual features that meet your personal taste, such as design, size, colour, materials, and display features.

Also consider the power usage, programmable settings, and extra technology (such as Bluetooth connectivity and touchscreen controls).
